The Bluefruit LE UART Friend makes it easy to add Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity to anything with a serial hardware or software port. We even include a nice hardware flow control so you don't have to worry about losing data. Connect it to your Arduino or other microcontroller, or just use a standard FTDI cable for debugging and testing.

This multifunction module can do quite a bit! Most people will be very happy using the standard Nordic UART RX/TX connection profile. In this profile, the Bluefruit acts as a data line that can "transparently" transmit back and forth from your iOS or Android device. You can use our iOS app, Android app, or write your own app to communicate with the UART service.

So it's a fancy wireless UART adapter?

The board can do much more than just send strings over the air! Thanks to an easy-to-learn AT command set, you have full control over the device's behavior, including the ability to define and manipulate your own GATT services and properties, or change the way the device displays itself to other Bluetooth Low Energy devices. You can also use the AT commands to query the temperature of the chip, check the battery voltage, check the connection RSSI or MAC address, and more. Really, way too long to list here!

With our Bluefruit iOS app or Android app, you can quickly prototype your project using your iOS or Android phone/tablet as a controller. Adafruit has color selection, quaternion/accelerometer/gyro/magnetometer or tracking (GPS), and an 8-button control gamepad.

- The Bluefruit can also function like a HID keyboard (for devices that support BLE HID).
