Which variant suits which application?

  • 5″: Compact touch surface for space-saving embedded systems, small control devices, and mobile applications.

  • 7″: Universal size for dashboards, information systems, and general Raspberry Pi projects.

  • 10″: Large, high-resolution touch surface for HMI, industrial control panels, process visualization, kiosk systems, and more complex user interfaces.

Special feature of the 10″ variant:
The Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 10″ is not just larger. With its 1200 × 1920 pixels, IPS technology, 10-finger touch, and four DSI lanes, it is technically the most powerful variant of the Touch Display 2 family. For this reason, it is exclusively intended for Raspberry Pi 5 and Compute Modules.

Important technical peculiarity:
The 10″ Touch Display 2 requires four DSI lanes due to its higher resolution. Therefore, it is not compatible with Raspberry Pi 4 or older Raspberry Pi models. For Raspberry Pi Compute Modules, a suitable IO board with a DSI connector is required. With the CM4IO, DISP1 must be used; with the CM5IO and later IO boards, any of the DISP connectors can be used.

Further Features: Raspberry Pi OS supports mouse-equivalent touch operation and an on-screen keyboard for the Touch Display 2. The display is powered directly by the host Raspberry Pi and therefore does not require its own power supply.

Application Areas

The 10″ Touch Display 2 is particularly suitable for professional B2B, embedded, and industrial applications. The large, high-resolution touch surface offers ample space for more complex user interfaces and visualizations.

  • Machine operation and HMI systems
  • Control and operating panels for industrial plants
  • Process visualization and monitoring
  • Production and logistics dashboards
  • Building and facility control
  • Interactive information systems
  • Embedded terminals and customized control devices
  • IoT and automation solutions

Raspberry Pi specifically names tablets, entertainment systems, and information dashboards as typical application areas for the Touch Display 2. Its suitability for industrial HMI and embedded systems results particularly from the combination of Raspberry Pi Compute Module, DSI connectivity, and touch operation.

FAQ

Which Raspberry Pi models is the 10″ Touch Display 2 compatible with?
The 10″ Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 is compatible with Raspberry Pi 5 and later Raspberry Pi models, as well as with Raspberry Pi Compute Module IO Boards. Raspberry Pi 4B and older models, as well as the Raspberry Pi Zero series, are not supported.

How many touch points does the display support?
The capacitive touchscreen supports up to ten simultaneously detected touch points, allowing for comfortable multi-touch operation.

Does the Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 10″ require its own power supply?
No. The display is powered directly via the GPIO interface of the connected Raspberry Pi. A separate power supply for the display is not required.

What resolution does the Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 10″ offer?
The 10″ Touch Display 2 offers a resolution of 1200 × 1920 pixelswith 24-bit RGB color representation.

Can the 10″ Touch Display 2 be used with a Raspberry Pi Compute Module?
Yes. The display can be used with a Raspberry Pi Compute Module and a suitable IO board. For the CM4IO Board and earlier compatible boards, the DISP1connector must be used. For the CM5IO Board and later compatible boards, DISP0 or DISP1can be used. Compute Modules do not automatically detect the DSI display and require appropriate configuration.

Which DSI interface does the 10″ Touch Display 2 require?
The 10″ model requires a 4-lane MIPI-DSI connectiondue to its 1200 × 1920 pixel resolution. The included 22-pin mini-to-mini FFCis used for this.

Notes

The Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 10″is not compatible with the Raspberry Pi 4B or older Raspberry Pi models, nor the Raspberry Pi Zero series. It is intended for Raspberry Pi 5 and Raspberry Pi Compute Moduleswith a suitable IO or carrier board. Compute Modules do not automatically detect DSI displays, so corresponding configuration may be required depending on the hardware used.

The display is designed for native portrait operationand uses a 4-lane MIPI DSI connectiondue to its 1200 × 1920 pixel resolution. For optimal compatibility, Raspberry Pi recommends updating Raspberry Pi OS and the EEPROM bootloader of the Raspberry Pi in use to the latest version.

When using a Compute Module, the IO board used must also be considered: For the Compute Module 4 IO Board, the DISP1 portmust be used. For the Compute Module 5 IO Board and later compatible IO Boards, either of the two DISP portscan be used.
